8 Things to Know About Girls With Curls

My hair is my trademark. Dark, thick, curly, and slightly wild - it grabs attention. Some of it is good, and some of it is not. I love my curly hair, but here are a few things to note when friending or dating a girl with curls!

ombre curls1. My hair smells nice. It takes multiple products to make my hair stay put and fight frizz. I have more than six different bottles of hair product in my bathroom. The benefit of using so many products- they all smell amazing!

2. While you might enjoy smelling my hair, I don't recommend touching it. Running your fingers through my long curly hair might seen romantic, but please don't try it.Your fingers might get tangled in all those luxurious curly stands, and you will probably end up pulling out some of my hair. Ouch!

3.  I take longer than an hour to get ready. My hair alone takes about 45 minutes. Rushing me will do you no good. I'm not high maintenance, I just have a lot of hair to deal with!

4. "What did you say?" I'm not ignoring you, I just can't hear you. This one might be just me, but on occasion when I wear my hair down it covers my ears and virtually creates a soundproof barrier, like fluffy earmuffs.

5. Do you want to make my day? Compliment my hair and you'll be golden.

6. Sometimes I will use a flat iron to straighten my hair. I still love my curls, so don't suggest that I get my hair straightened permanently. I hate when someone asks me 'why don't you just get it relaxed or get a straight perm?' Straightening my hair doesn't mean I don't like it. I LOVE my curls, but its nice to change it up sometimes. I feel completely different with straight hair.

7. Getting a hair cut is a huge risk taking event for anyone with curly hair. There are very few people who know how to correctly cut curly hair, and in the wrong hands our hair could turn into a nightmare. I once drove 5 hours to go to a particular hair dresser in a particular city because he has been the only hair dresser to give me a hair cut I didn't regret.

8. Every one needs a friend with curly hair. This is true. Our curly hair reflects our quirky and fun personalities. Not one curl is like another.

Here is a quick look at my curly locks and their transformation over the years as I have learned to manage and style them.

  4. Judy,
We share the same struggle! I have resolved to giving myself a trim on my own between visits.
